Kiln Coffee Bar, a new coffee shop located at 326 Main St. in downtown Grand Junction, opened on May 27. Started by twin brothers David and Jonathan Foster, Kiln features quality coffee from all around Colorado.

They offer many different brews and blends. Featured roasters are rotated seasonally to give customers exposure to coffees from roasters in different parts of Colorado. Some of their roasters at the moment are Huckleberry, Bestslope and Mountain Mama Roasters.

They also offer several different methods for brewing that perfect the cup of joe. Methods include french press, pour over, V60 and AeroPress.

Kiln also offers food and pastries like cookies, pies, cupcakes etc. They also feature seasonally grown foods. During the peach season; pastries featuring Palisade peaches such as peach scones, peach macaroons and many peach pies and cupcakes that all came out around the time of the farmer’s markets held downtown.

The aesthetic of the environment at the coffee bar is simple but they do feature a variety of local artists: Canvas and Quill and most recently, Cameron Cunni. The featured artists are changed on a regular basis.

The Kiln also features a handful of events, which are held at the shop. On Saturday, Oct. 7, they held a cookie decorating workshop with Sweet Kiwi Cookies.

Poetry readings will be held for the first time at the coffee bar starting Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Coffee is provided and it is open to the public, but if you want a chance to read, you must sign up prior to the event. After October, the readings will be held the last Tuesday of every month.

“I go to The Kiln for good coffee and an even better environment. I like it because it’s a chill place to get my homework done and they also make pretty designs in my lattes,” said Colorado Mesa University student, Hugh Heinrich. “The Kiln is different from most coffee shops in this area. They have a lot of brewing options which makes each cup of coffee I get unique. You’ll never get the same cup of coffee twice.”

Wednesday study hours at The Kiln offer 20 percent off a drink after 5 p.m. when presented with a student I.D., making for a great place to get your brew and study on.
