On the Colorado Mesa University campus, several stories float around about specific halls, and one such hall has had enough stories to incite a reputation with it. Bunting Hall is the rumored “party dorm” that all incoming students hear about, when they ask about the dorms in their new home. So for this week’s building, let’s take a dive into Bunting and find out a little more about this dorm.
Bunting offers a semi-suite environment for its residents, which come with a variety of singles and doubles and a bathroom to share. This happens to be one of the great advantages to living in this hall since it offers a private place to shower and take care of business.
“Having a private bathroom is super nice because you don’t have to leave the room to shower or use the bathroom, meaning you don’t have to worry about who you’ll pass in a towel while you’re walking back to your dorm,” Tiffany Schroeder, a Bunting resident said.
Not to mention that having the suite aspect of living space allows for a very tight-knit group of roommates and suitemates. However, there are still community areas, study rooms and kitchens throughout the hall, so if one just needs a break from the constant contact with the same group of people, there are places in the dorm to escape to or to meet new people outside of the room.
Bunting is a decently far walk from the caf when compared to the stroll from Monument, so be prepared to take a little hike whenever you want to get some use out of your meal plan. The elevator is also a tad slow for those that use it every day to get up and down the building, offering an inconvenience to those that need to use it, especially if it stops on every floor to pick up or drop off several students at their destination.
Last but certainly not least, is the verdict on its reputation. Living in a party dorm could be very disruptive, especially for those that have mounds of homework to do, or for those with poor self-control to keep themselves away from the music. This building does earn its reputation; however, it is less chaotic than one might think.
“Bunting gets the name ‘party dorm’ for a reason; however, it’s usually on the weekends so music and people being loud don’t bother me,” Schroeder said.
Therefore, there are only a couple of days that can raise questions about permanent ear damage, making the dorm a respectful and normal environment overall. Just make sure to either have your homework done before Friday night or to reserve a study room in the library.
This party dorm is the bumping hall to go to during the weekends, but also offers a satisfactory living environment on the other days of the week. If you don’t mind the noise, Bunting is probably a good fit for your college stay.
