Student Trustee Amara Hobbs won re-election in the 2019 Colorado Mesa University Associated Student Government election. The race for student trustee had four candidates this year, but Hobbs still won with 57 percent of student votes. Senate Leader Colton Rupple came the closest to challenging Hobbs with 24 percent of student votes.
“I am so thankful and excited to be able to serve as the student trustee for yet another term. Being able to advocate for students and the growth of CMU is something that I am incredibly passionate about and I cannot express how happy I am to serve the students one last time,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs said she is excited to continue growing the student trustee position and creating a connection with students, trustees and the Grand Junction community. “I’m so proud of everyone who campaigned this year and a big thank you to everyone who voted,” Hobbs said.
“I would like to congratulate [Hobbs] for all their hard work,” Rupple said. “The students have spoken and I back the students on their vote because ultimately our responsibility is to represent the students.”
There were 859 total student votes. Hobbs earned 496 votes, Rupple earned 213 votes, Justice Jasmine Tellez earned 79 votes and Olivia VanGundy earned 71 votes.
