Last Thursday The Criterion held interviews for the Editor in Chief (EIC) position. Following the interviews it was decided that current Managing Editor Alec Williams will be moving up and taking the EIC position for the 2017-18 school year.

This hiring comes three weeks after Williams was awarded the 2016 Region 9 Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists during the regional conference over spring break. Williams was nominated under the In-Depth Reporting (Large) 10,000+ Students category for his work on the professor under scrutiny articles back in the 2016 fall semester.

This award comes as an accomplishment for both Williams and The Criterion as this was the first time either had received this prestigious award.

Williams began his newspaper career with The Criterion during the spring of 2016 semester as a writer. He then worked his way up into becoming the news editor and the managing editor during the fall of 2016 semester.

Williams will begin his hiring process for the remaining positions this week and will look to have those interviews completed by the end of the week.
