The Mavericks winning streak of six games ended in the series finale when a six error inning would be something the Mavericks could not recover from.

Six errors put a damper on Colorado Mesa University’s hot streak. After a good two innings in what looked to be a pitching duel from right handed sophomore Josh Danyliw and Northwest Nazarene’s Kyle Ethridge, would eventually turn into a party for the Nighthawks.

Not looking like themselves, the Maverick defense allowed six errors in one inning all while giving up nine runs. Tyler Parker, Spencer Bramwell, Chase Hamilton Jonathan Gonzalez and Danyliw all were responsible for them.

The Nighthawks would not score again until the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly. Completing the 10-2 victory to avoid getting swept.

Danyliw did all he could in this one throwing three and two thirds with two earned runs, three strikeouts before handing the ball to the junior right hander Anthony Durbano. After getting CMU out of the fourth inning one of the Mavericks freshman arms, Jacob Rhoads, came in for three and two thirds holding the Nighthawks still to nine runs. Garrett Tisdall was the last Maverick to step onto the mound this weekend and would allow the Nighthawk to two more runs.

CMU hitters could not find their rhythm at the plate today when they had to face true freshman Ethridge. The Mavericks left twelve runners on base including leaving the bases loaded during the bottom of the fourth.

Haydn McGeary did not stop his hitting streak though. He hit a single in the ninth with Johnny Carr and Tanner Garner on base. On the throwing error, Carr and Garner both scored. But the effort was short lived as the rally fell exponentially short.

CMU stays at Suplizio Field next weekend and will host Minot State University starting February 28 at 2:30 p.m.
