The Associated Student Government has been working hard on the Biennial Process. It started on Sept. 14 and will conclude on Dec. 5.
Many students may be unaware of what the Biennial Process is. Basically, it is how a portion of student fees are distributed. “The ASG is in charge of allocating $1.3 million to every organization,” said Beau Flores, ASG President. Students are still welcome to attend the biennial hearings. These hearings take place each Friday at 4 p.m. in the University Center until all presentations have been heard. If students are unable to attend those hearings, but still want to give some input, they are allowed to attend the ASG meetings that are held on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in UC 213.
Organizations began presenting their budgets on Sept. 14. They are first presented to the Fee Allocation Committee (FAC). If approved by FAC, the budgets will then go to the student senate. If the student senate approves the budget, it will then go before Flores where it will either be approved or denied. Once approved, Flores will take the budgets before the Trustees of Colorado Mesa University for the final approval.
“If any organization doesn’t feel a good decision has been made, they can appeal the decision on Nov. 9,” Flores stated.
The Criterion, ASG, The Outdoor Program, CMU-TV, Horizon Magazine, KMSA, Club Advisory Board (CAB) and the Art Gallery have already presented their budgets. The rest are all still in the process of their presentations.
